Lacquerware

Traditional Craftsmanship in Every Piece

Our lacquerware techniques trace their origins to the Kaiyuan period of the Tang Dynasty, dating back 1,200 years. We produce one of China’s four renowned lacquerware styles, blending traditional craftsmanship with functional artistry.

Expertise and Dedication

With over 40 years of experience, our artisans handcraft each piece in our studio. Every item embodies creativity, historical significance, aesthetic value, and collectability.

High-Quality Materials

Each piece starts with high-quality wood. After priming, the wood is coated with a rough undercoat to ensure strong lacquer adhesion. Any imperfections are filled, and the surface is sanded smooth for the perfect finish.

Layering and Inlay Work

The layering process involves applying thin, even layers of lacquer—often repeated hundreds of times. Our craftsmen also incorporate gold and mother-of-pearl inlays into the lacquer for decorative effect.

Unique Polishing Method

Our polishing method sets us apart: instead of sandpaper, artisans polish the surface by hand using sesame oil and clay ash, creating a distinctive texture that enhances the beauty of each piece.

Hand-Painting and Gilding

Each piece is hand-painted with intricate patterns, followed by gilding with gold leaf or powder to achieve a luxurious finish.

Over 30 Intricate Steps

From start to finish, every piece is handcrafted through more than 30 intricate steps, showcasing the immense effort and skill involved.
